What’s new in Rungeist, and where to read it.

Rungeist 1.4.0

  • p0rt is now Rungeist. Same app, same licence, new name. Your licence carries over on its own and there is nothing to re-enter: the update keeps the identity the old version registered, so activations, your trial and your settings all survive it. A rungeist is the ghost of a process still running, which is closer to what this app is for than a spelling of the word port ever was.
  • A ghost in your menu bar. The menu-bar icon and the app icon are both the ghost now. The menu-bar tile still tells you the same five things at a glance, in the same colours: grey when nothing is running, solid when something is, amber when a project is working hard, red when two things want the same port, and turquoise with a second, paler ghost behind it when a server has just appeared.
  • The old download links still work. Anything that pointed at the previous name keeps working, and updates keep arriving the same way they always have. If you have bookmarked a download link or written one down somewhere, you do not need to change it.

  • Your local AI servers, in the list. Ollama and friends are started by macOS in the background, with no project folder for Rungeist to group them under, so they never appeared. Open Settings, then Filters, and add the port under “Always watch these ports”. There is a one-click shortcut for Ollama, LM Studio, Jan, GPT4All, ComfyUI and Stable Diffusion. Ollama on 11434 then sits alongside your dev servers, with its own group.
  • An honest stop button for background services. When macOS is set to keep a service running, stopping it here would only make it start again seconds later. Rungeist now spots that and greys out the stop buttons for it, on the row and on “Stop all”, explaining why when you hover, rather than looking like it worked. Services macOS does not restart still stop normally.
  • Settings no longer accepts folders it can never use. “Also watch” used to take any folder without comment, including ones it could never match, such as a LaunchAgents folder. It now says so and points you at the setting that does the job. Any entry you already added that has no effect is marked in the list.
Rungeist is shipping

Rungeist is out, and updates arrive on their own. The app checks once a day and asks before installing anything. Every release’s notes appear in the update window, so you read what changed at the moment you decide to install it.

You can check any time from the gear menu with Check for Updates…, or turn the automatic check off entirely in Settings → General.
